Biography

As a Memphis, TN, native, 21-year-old producer and engineer, Xavier Henry has been immersed in music since childhood. What began as making sounds in elementary schools has blossomed into what the next generation of artists needs to thrive. Professionally known as ZAYY, Henry first gained his skill after attending Stax Music Academy as a high school student, playing instruments such as French horn, flute, and keyboard. By performing at numerous concert halls across the mid-south area, he was fortunate to have performed for Isaac Hayes’s daughter and many other notable creatives in the music industry. The instrumentalist decided to pivot to production in 2019. After transitioning to a production course at his academy, Henry was chosen for Grammy award-winning Justin Timberlake’s 8-week workshop for songwriters and producers, receiving exceptional feedback from music phenoms like Elliot Ives, Danja, Ant Clemons, James Fauntleroy, and more. His work can be found on tracks like “Deception” by Violette, and Noah Israel’s ”Better As Friends” and “Bad For You. ”Legendary Stax Records stars Carla Thomas and multi-instrumentalist have also trusted Zay with records and covered tracks such as “ Friendship” and “High Note” in collaboration with artist Valerie June. Known for his futuristic sound and versatility, projects like these have provided him the platform to become a songwriter and develop several students’ artistic abilities. In addition to his hard work in the studio, Zay has received sync placement for Whole Sells Package Store’s promotional commercial, worked as a studio engineer at Slim Production Studios, music instructor at Stax Music Academy and surrounding high schools, and Live sound engineer for Overton Parks Shell on Wheels. Furthermore, Henry has worked heavily with the Grammys’ efforts to support artistsas he is currently a GrammyU member and live sound engineer for the Grammy Museum. As he continues to embark on a journey in the music industry, he hopes to develop and create for many generations of emerging artists for years to come.
